Navy ain't Gravy
I wanted to dedicate my first truly sports related blog post to something that is very important to me. An issue that, as a massive sports fan, I unfortunately have to grapple with on a constant basis. That issue, of course, is navy blue uniforms.
You may be asking, "what's so bad about navy blue uniforms?". More than you know.
First and foremost, they're just plain boring. Navy blue, in my opinion, is just a drab color to feature on a uniform, with very few exceptions. Sure, the Yankees use it very well, but that's the Yankees. Point towards most navy blue uniforms in sports, and most of them are just unremarkable.
I mean, let's face it. Notre Dame's football uniforms are boring. Furthermore, they're infuriating to me. Yes, I know blue and gold are the school colors. But if your mascot is a leprechaun, clad in gratuitous amounts of green, then I think you should wear green. And, while many may not agree, I think Notre Dame looked at their best in these green uniforms.
That brings me to my closing argument. In very few instances has a team's best looking uniforms been navy. Think about it. The Patriots? Looked better in red. The Rams? Look better in their throwbacks. And we all know the LA Chargers look their best when they put the navy blue jerseys away and dust out those beautiful powder blues, which many NFL fans regard as the best looking in all of football.
I could go on and on with teams that look better when they ditch the navy. The Seattle Mariners look better in their teal uniforms, and BYU's royal blue football uniforms are a thing of beauty. It's 2017, teams should stop wearing navy.
Change it up. Just because there are several "classic" uniforms that feature navy doesn't mean it's not a boring color. Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a fan of conservative uniforms. I'm a sucker for striped sleeves.
I'm just tired of seeing uniforms dragged down by a boring color. Sure, navy uniforms generally look fine. But you should strive to be more than fine. You should strive to have the best looking team on the field.
Navy just ain't gravy.
